Getting your photographs printed

We do not offer an in-house printing service. However we are proud of our close working relationship with two local photographic printers. If you are looking to have a photograph printed, then we recommend you try either Powerprint or Metro. They will give you the best available advice to get the results that you want, while making sure that the print is the best spec for either Diasec or Dry Mounting.

A question of size

The largest routine works we can tackle are 3000 x 1600 mm (118 x 63 inches) We do occasionally manage bigger but the maximum width will never exceed 2000 mm (78 inches approximately)

At the opposite end of the scale, the smallest works we will produce come in at 200 x 250 mm (8 x 10 inches) Anything less would be dangerous when cutting and trimming to size on our workshop machinery, therefore we will not attempt it.

The best type of paper/finish

A matt finish photographic paper will produce the best results when looking to Diasec works. Lambda, C Type or Duratrans are ideal for this process. Avoid fibre based papers if you can. These tend to be difficult to lay flat due to their tendency to cockle. Even straight forward dry mounting on to aluminium can prove tricky, so when working with these we always suggest that there is good excess left to trim off around the image - the more, the better. For other papers especially when you want a Diasec to image it’s always a good idea to leave 50 mm (2 inches) excess all round.

Inkjets and heat sealing

When undergoing Diasec treatment all inkjets need to have a heat seal applied first. You won’t see this on the finished product but it is vital to the process. There is an added cost with sealing but unfortunately it cannot be avoided. Epson Black & White images however are not particularly suited to heat seal. Inkjets can sometimes show an unavoidable minor colour shift on occasion as a result of heat seal.

Time-scales

Give yourself plenty of time. Generally, we schedule works to be completed 14 days after arrival here in the workshop. However this predicted lead-time can fluctuate, dependent on what other projects have been booked in prior to your request. We MUST have your artwork on-site 14 days prior to despatch as the minimum. We will let you know an expected completion date when you call us.

Students

We understand that the cost of Diasec or Aluminium Mounting can be restrictive to the budget of an art student. So in order to try and support our future artists, we offer a reduced rate for registered students & their degree shows.

Collection and delivery

Unfortunately we are not able to offer a collection or delivery service for finished works. Should you need a delivery service, we would advise contacting your own independent carrier.
